Though the 2013 season is young, Andy Gregg has shown some serious speed thus far, as the Placerville, CA shoe scored a fourth place finish in Saturday night’s Silver Cup at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.
With 31 cars checked into the pit area, Gregg timed his Coors Light/LivFast/GUTS Racing No.53 entry in with the fourth quickest lap of the night, on a tricky track in qualifying.
During his heat, he had issues however, as he lost the handle on the first lap, and sent his Meyers and Son Drywall/Ervin Sales/K&N machine spinning, forcing him to the tail.
The ensuing restart saw Gregg, bicycle in the same corner, but he saved it, and ended up with a fifth place finish, just missing a transfer position.
Starting on the pole of the B, Gregg powered away from the field aboard his FK Rod Ends/Eagle Motorsports/King Racing Products backed entry, picking up the win, and transferring to the feature where he would roll off in the seven spot.
With the track slicking off, Gregg and his crew debated long about changes to the car as Gregg watched the track trying to guess where he would go in the feature.
As the race went green, Gregg settled in the seventh spot for the first few laps, until he went to the top and made some moves getting around Justyn Cox, and then battling Brandon Wimmer.
Once in the top five, Gregg moved past early leader, Gregg Decaires, and took over the fourth spot at the halfway point.
With a long green flag run to close out the race, Gregg hung in the fourth spot as they ran through traffic, and crossed the stripe with his best finish of the season.
Gregg was in action on Friday in Chico, and had a bit of bad luck.
After timing in fifth fastest, he got off to a slow start in his heat, and finished sixth putting him in the B main.
Starting on the pole of the B, Gregg scored the win, but had a engine issues, and pulled off the track quickly after taking the checkered.
Finding the issue was a quick fix, Gregg and his team made the call for the feature, on what was a rough and tumble track.
While running in the sixth spot, Gregg made contact with an infield tire as he worked the bottom of the speedway, and dropped to the back of the pack, ultimately scoring an 11th place finish.
“All in all it was a good weekend for us,” Gregg said. “We had good speed all weekend, and on Friday the driver made a bone head move. We had to run the B twice and won, but luckily we timed in well and started near the front in the feature. Saturday we got rolling pretty good, and ended up with our best finish of the year.”
Andy would like to thank Coors Light, LivFast Clothing Co., GUTS Racing, Meyers and Son Drywall, Ervin Sales Group, K&N Products, FK Rod Ends, Eagle Motorsports, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Hinchman, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and 103.5 The Blaze for their support in 2013.
