Making last minute arrangements to pilot the famed Rod Tiner Racing No. 83, Steven Tiner was good early on Saturday night, before struggling to an 11th place finish at the Silver Cup in Chico, CA on Saturday night.
“This entire deal came about late last week, and it showed, as we had a heck of a time just getting to the track,” the Visalia, CA driver said.
With a borrowed engine from Joe Hunt Magneto’s, Tiner wasted no time making his presence known as he timed his RTR No. 83 machine in with quick time during qualifications against a stout 31 car field.
Starting sixth in his heat, Tiner had a great start as he powered his way to a third place finish, transferring to the feature event.
With the six inversion pill being pulled, Tiner would line his machine up sixth, with the plan of rolling the bottom of the super slick track.
Tiner’s guess, and plan proved to be the wrong choice, as after the first few laps, a couple drivers found the top to their liking, and most followed suit, giving Tiner a handful trying to make it work.
Simply too free, Tiner , held on to his machine as he dropped back in the feature event.
Playing with his wing hoping to tighten his machine up, Tiner still was unable to make it work, as he slipped back to the 11th spot at the finish.
“The feature summed up our week trying to get everything together,” he said. “We had some mechanical issues that we had to fix, and missed heading up on Friday, and then Saturday our truck broke down. We timed in great, and I just flat missed our set up. It was awesome to get back in the Tiner 83, and these ART cars are awesome to drive.”
Stever and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Elma Lanes, Larry Davis Farms, Wright Processing Systems, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, Dan Olson Race Prodcuts, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Good Ridge, Schoenfeld, Western Metal Company, and Roseville Precision for their support in 2013.

ON TAP: Tiner is unsure of his next race, but is not ruling out the possibility of heading to Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday night for the 2013 Civil War Series season opener.
