Racing on two polar opposite tracks at the Tulare Thunderbowl, Rico Abreu scored a 9th and 15th place finish while competing against the World of Outlaws.
On Friday night, Abreu and the field were greeted with a rough and heavy turns one and two and a dead slick turns three and four, and Abreu opened the night up by timing in 13th quickest.
Spinning out in his heat, Abreu gave up his front row starting position, but was still able to make a late move to put his Abreu Vineyards/ButlerBuilt/FK Rod Ends machine in a transfer spot to move to the feature event, where he started in the 15th spot.
Searching around turns one and two to find the smoothest line for the feature event, Abreu was able to grab spots as he held on to his bouncing car.
Getting around Kerry Madsen and Jonathan Allard late in the feature, Abreu scored a ninth place finish.
“The track was tough on Friday,” he said. “You had the really walk a fine line in one and two, to make sure you avoided the ruts and didn’t turn over.”
Saturday night saw a completely opposite track that was slick for most of the night, and ultimately took rubber.
Going out late for time trials, Abreu timed in 15th quickest, but due to the fact there was under 32 cars, he missed the heat race inversion.
Starting fifth in his heat, Abreu worked the ‘top-shelf’ and scored a third place finish, again transferring to the feature, where he would line up in the 15th spot.
With the track taking rubber early, Abreu simply got in line, and rode around for 35 laps, and ended up with a 15th place finish.
“It’s no fun when the track takes rubber like that, especially that early,” he said. “I just maintained and hoped my tires lasted all 35-laps, and they did.”
Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, ButlerBuilt, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld, Keith Kunz Motorsports, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and Factory Kahne Shocks for their support.
