After numerous minor podium finishes, Danny Reidy last Saturday night at Archerfield Speedway scored his maiden 2012–13 season Sprintcar feature–race victory.
The NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs supported J&J driver powered to a comprehensive victory in the opening 20–lap feature race, which saw him hit the lead within the opening lap from his second–row start, and never headed.
“We’ve been close a couple of times this season, so it was a great to finally be rewarded for our persistence,” expressed Reidy. “The car was perfect from start to finish and full credit must go out to my team, Sean and Ben, for all of their support. It was awesome to get those guys a result and reward them for all of their hard work.”
Reidy in the second 20–lap feature race was unable to duplicate his performance from the opening feature race. After starting from position 10 in the field, he was the innocent party in an early pile up which saw him hit from behind by another car. The contact damaged his left rear rim and consequently cut down his tyre, and forced him to retire to the infield. It was certainly a disappointing end to what was a promising night.
The night for Reidy started off strongly, when he qualified third in time trials. He then backed up that effort with a third–place finish from the rear of the field in the opening heat race, while in the second heat race, he found the going a little tougher and finished seventh.
This weekend, Reidy steps away from the racing to travel over to New Zealand to watch the 2013 Speedway Grand Prix opener at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland.
Reidy will return to the driver’s seat for the three–night Tri–City Shootout Series over the Easter Long Weekend. The opening night will be at Maryborough Speedway on March 29, the second night at Archerfield Speedway on March 30, and the third and final night at Charlton Raceway on March 31.
Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all of their 2012–13 season support.
