Tim Kaeding proved once again he’s one of the best in the business this weekend as he flirted with victory on Friday night, and put on a charge from the back on Saturday night.
“We aren’t racing for points against these guys (The World of Outlaws), so we are doing what we can to pick off as many wins against them as possible,” he said.
The weekend kicked off on Friday night at the Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, CA.
The driver simply know as ‘TK’, opened it up by timing his Roth Enterprises/Mobil1/Weld Wheels No. 83 machine in with the ninth fastest lap during qualifications.
A heat race win put Kaeding in the Dash, and his second place finish put him on the front row of the 30-lap feature alongside, Paul McMahan.
The start did not go Kaeding’s way, as we fell back into the third spot as he chased down McMahan and Kyle Larson.
Getting around McMahan for second on the four lap, Kaeding went to work on Larson, and made a bold pass for the lead on the 10th lap.
Out in front, Kaeding seemed to go anywhere he wanted on the track and held the top spot for the next 17 laps.
On the 27th lap, Kaeding got bottled up in traffic, and Larson was able to sneak back by for the lead, but TK didn’t let him out of his sites.
“We had a good car, and we were in the middle of a great race with Larson, so I figured I would give him all he could handle for the final two laps,” he said.
Though he tried a couple of late ‘sliders’ Larson was able to fend him off and TK ended up scoring a second place finish.
“Dennis and Theresa have given me a great team, and these guys gave me an awesome car tonight, but I am a little bummed we didn’t win. On a side note, it was great to see this many people out at the track supporting us!,” he said.
Saturday night Tim and his team returned to the Silver Dollar Speedway for the Mini Gold Cup.
Though he has been successful at the track in the past, Kaeding seems to have bad luck when he is in action with the Outlaws.
Timing in 17th quickest, TK would go on to score a fourth place finish, and put his machine in the 40-lap feature event.
His qualifying time to come to haunt him in the feature, as he rolled off in the 17th spot for the 40-lap feature, with most choosing to run the bottom of the speedway.
Looking to make something happen, TK chose to go to the high, scary, side, and make moves.
Though he was back in the field, TK would advance seven spots, and score yet another top-10 at the finish.
“We hurt ourselves qualifying, but we had a great car all night, and went forward any time we hit the track,”
Tim and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, Mobil1, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Astro Titanium, 3H Cattle, Kaeding Performance, and Kent Performance Center for their support in 2013.
