Tulsa OK — (April 2, 2013) — The first race of the year is in the books and by all accounts, with an opening night field of 38 cars, the Oil Capital Racing Series looks to be set for a good season. This week, the battle-tested warriors will invade the Southern Oklahoma Speedway where the track has produced some excellent excitement and is ready to “Rock The House” with the sound of pure raw horsepower. The last tour stop OCRS made to SOS was last August when Danny “The Caretaker” Smith passed a spinning Jamie Passmore in the last turn of the last lap to take the win, which left the fans in a frenzy over the exciting finish. Area race fans are now abuzz after “The Lindsay Flash”, Miss Harli White, showed the boys how the game is played when she swept the program last weekend and in doing so, the young lady won her first ever OCRS main event becoming the second female in as many seasons to accomplish such a feat. “The Princess”, Shayla Waddell, scored a win last May at the Salina Highbanks and she will also be at SOS to take on the boys this weekend.
In addition to these fast n’ talented women, other OCRS drivers expected to compete include the aforementioned Passmore and Smith along with other open wheel pedal mashers such as:
2011 Oklahoma State Champion winner Gary Owens
Whit “The Gasman” Gastineau
‘Lightning’ Layne Himebaugh,
Flyin’ Brian McClelland
Joe Wood Jr.
Kyle Clark
Michael Bookout
Jeremy Allen and….
Brodix & PM-PRO rookie contenders Kip Hughes, Joshua Tyre and the Morton boys, Chance & Kade…..
……And more! Race fans can expect a night of highly electrified and thrilling action from these warriors of the night as OCRS sprint car action anywhere is always hot and heavy.
New A-Feature Line Up System Debuts Saturday Night
OCRS officials will debut a new system in how automatically transferred drivers from the qualifying heat races will line up for the night’s main event. In addition, the number of cars from the heat races transferring directly to the A-Feature will change from 16 to 12. The remaining cars to race in the evenings A-Feature will come from one or two B-Feature events. The dozen automatically transferred cars from the heats to the A-Feature will line up in an inverted manner according to their “Feature Point Averages” from last week. A team who did not attend last week will use their heat race points to factor in their status as to whether they are part of the “Auto-12” or go to a B-Feature.
What This Change Means For The Fans……..
In previous seasons, the drivers that earned the right to start in the “Pole Dash” race could start the A-Feature on the pole position or start sixth (depending on their finish). After last weeks event, the Pole Dash event in now eliminated. With the new system, fans will see the best performers (based on feature point averages) start farther back. This format will give the fans a program where these top performers will need to work their way through more cars to achieve their goal of winning the main event. In addition, those teams who haven’t had the success as others will have the opportunity to get a starting spot further ahead of the field to test their skills in being able to obtain their own goal of winning an OCRS event. Longtime fans of the sport will see a resemblance of what most local tracks have used for years in inverting fields for the feature. Drivers will need to get “On The Wheel” more than ever before.
