After a rough opening night in the Stan Greenberg No. 37, Steven Tiner was hopeful better luck would follow him to the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA on Saturday, but that was not a case as a flipping car landed on his machine early in the feature, ending his night.
“I’m not too sure what to say,” Tiner said. “We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
With 20 cars on hand for round two of the Rebel Cup Series, Tiner was the first car out for qualifications, and timed the Western Metal/KPC entry in 10th quickest.
A second place finish in his heat, put him in the feature event inversion, and he started in the ninth spot.
On a very treacherous Thunderbowl Raceway, Tiner worked the bottom of the speedway, as the highside was pretty rough.
“The top was pretty rough all night, so we were working the bottom hoping to make it back to the trailer in once piece,” he said.
Getting up to seventh, Tiner’s night would abruptly end on the sixth lap when a flipping Shawn Wright came down on the right side of Tiner’s car, and the damage was too severe, and his night was over.
“Shawn Wright got into the wall, and we came into the picture at the wrong time, and his car got into the right side of ours, and we were done. It’s no ones fault really, just bad luck.”
Stever and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Elma Lanes, Larry Davis Farms, Wright Processing Systems, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, Dan Olson Race Prodcuts, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Good Ridge, Schoenfeld, Western Metal Company, and Roseville Precision for their support in 2013.
