It was a matter of close, but not close enough for Danny Reidy in last Saturday night’s Sprintcar Gold Cup at Lismore Speedway in Northern NSW. After starting from the middle of the pack in the feature race, he came home in second behind winner Andrew Scheuerle.
After starting from position eight in the Gold Cup deciding feature race, Reidy finished strongly in the closing stages of the 30–lap event. He had carved his way into podium contention by sweeping around the outside of competitors on a track where the main racing line was on the bottom. Once he had moved into second; he quickly closed in on Scheuerle in lapped traffic. However, with two laps to go there was a yellow light stoppage, which gave Scheuerle a clear track and spoiled Reidy’s chances of victory.
“That last stoppage worked in Andrew’s favour, but it worked against me because I felt I was a bit better than him in lapped traffic,” commented NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs supported J&J driver. “Considering where I started in the field, second place is still a pleasing result for the team and me.”
Earlier in the night, Reidy qualified eighth in time trials and then finished fourth and fifth in his two heat races. He qualified second for the B Dash, and that’s where he ended up finishing, which gave him a position–eight start for the feature race.
This Saturday night (April 27) Reidy travels to Maryborough Speedway to contest the Queensland Title.
The Reidy Racing team would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all of their 2012–13 season support.
