With their sites set on the 2013 Knoxville Championship Cup, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team opened their season off on the right foot as the Sydney, NSW driver timed in second quick before scoring a third place finish in the feature event.
“This was our second night and, and we had another great car,” Madsen said.
With 33 cars on hand, Madsen flexed his muscle early as he timed the Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractor Supply machine in second fastest, just shy of Brian Brown’s quick time pace.
Lining up in the third row of his heat, Madsen showed why he is one of the hottest drivers in the world to date, as he picked up a convincing win in his heat race, to put his Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes/Stepping Stone Genetics backed entry into the feature event.
Starting eighth in the feature event, Madsen got off to a slow start, as he got past Lynton Jeffery and Davey Heskin early to enter the top five by the time the caution waved on the ninth lap.
The ensuing restart saw Madsen motor around Don Droud, Jr, to take over the fourth spot, as he then set his sights on third running, Dusty Zomer.
With just six laps to go, Madsen got his KCP/Quality Traffic Control/Factory Kahne backed entry around Zomer to take over the third spot, as he chased down Terry McCarl and Shane Stewart for the final laps, but came home in the third spot.
“I’m very pleased with the way things are going out of the box,” Madsen said. “All the guys are working really well together, and we have a very fast racecar.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Watson’s Express Transport, and Kustom Concrete Pumping for their support.
