An unusual weather system rolled into Iowa over the weekend cancelling the race in Knoxville, so Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team opted to make the trip to the Eldora Speedway, however a crash on Friday night sidelined the team for Saturday’s event.
“I had never been to Eldora, so it seemed like a great opportunity for us, unfortunately we had an axle break, and that was the rest of our weekend,” he said.
Friday night opened up great for the Sydney, NSW native as he timed in his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply machine in seventh quickest, against the 39 cars that were checked in.
Heat race action saw Madsen start and finish in the third spot, transferring him into the feature event, but did not qualify him for the night’s dash, so we would ultimately line up in the 12th spot for the 30-lap feature event.
When the race went green, Madsen was quick, as he was inside the top-10 early in the feature, as he worked the high grove of the high-speed track.
However, the race would be short-lived for the 2013 Scott Darley Memorial winner, as a broken rear axle on the 14th lap, sent him upside down in a big way, and his night, and weekend was done.
“We were having a pretty good run, and all of the sudden the axle went, and we were wrecking,” he said “Our main focus this year is weekly at Knoxville, so with the damage, we decided to head back home.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Watson’s Express Transport, and Kustom Concrete Pumping for their support.
