From URA
San Bernardino, CA — (May 9, 2013) — This Saturday, the stars of the United Racing Association return to do battle in Round #3 of the Unlimited Sprint Cars at the “Fastest Clay Oval in the High Desert”, located at the San Bernardino Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. Also on hand to trade slide jobs will be the Dirt Legends and Open Comp Dwarf Cars. To celebrate Mother’s Day, Dirt Entertainment, the URA, and Route 66 Motorplex will be offering a $5.00 discount for all moms accompanied by a child.
A stellar field consisting of the finest traditional sprint car drivers on the West Coast is expected to slug it out for bragging rights and a chance to take home $2,550.00 in cold, hard cash at the end of the night. To view the full purse, which is guaranteed and will be paid out in cash at the conclusion of the night’s events, click here.
On April 27th, the newly re-surfaced Orange Show Stadium played host to the First Annual Robert “Doc” Griffin Memorial race for the URA Unlimited Sprint Cars. In storybook fashion, Mike Spencer of Temecula, California took home the checkers after a fierce battle with current URA series contenders “The Demon” Damion Gardner of Concord, CA and “Sick” Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, CA. Spencer, driving for car owner Ron Chaffin and mechanic Bruce Bromme, drove a near perfect race in the Madera Produce, Grubstake Mini Storage, and Kaeding Performance sponsored “Lil Red Sucker” Maxim (#50), which was successfully piloted by Richard Griffin of Silver City, New Mexico, who is the son of the late Robert “Doc” Griffin. The two Mark Alexander owned, Scott Sales, “Silver Bullet” Spike Chassis entries of Gardner (#4a) and Faas (#4) finished 2nd and 3rd, and are now tied for the series point lead. Currently 3rd in points is Riverside, California’s David Cardey, who drives the Tom and Laurie Sertich owned, Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror “Moose Racing Mobile” Victory Chassis (#92). The URA Limited Midgets were also on hand on April 27th and the crowd had the pleasure of witnessing the first series win by 12-year-old sensation Clayton Ruston of Yorba Linda, California, driving father Rich Ruston’s #55 Haas Automation Spike Chassis. Clayton drove an impeccable race to beat series regulars Parker Colston of Lake Elsinore, CA (Paul Colston #64) and Kyle Cline of Hesperia, CA (Walt Boyd #2).
