Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts this weekend’s second “Salute to Indy” for USAC’s Southwest Sprint cars and R.J. Johnson will try to retain his series point lead, which stands at 42 points over Ronnie Clark.
The two-night Friday–Saturday racing program offers more than 140 points so with only 105 separating the top-10 in the standings it’s anybody’s guess who’ll be leading the points after the weekend.
Charles Davis Jr., third in the standings, continues his pursuit of the all-time lead in terms of USAC wins in Arizona. He has seven career wins in the Grand Canyon State, one short of drivers A.J. Foyt, Dave Steele, Bryan Clauson and Damion Gardner.
2013 USAC Southwest Sprint Car Standings: 1-R.J. Johnson-297, 2-Ronnie Clark-255, 3-Charles Davis Jr.-254, 4-Mike Martin-228, 5-Bryan Swinehart-225, 6-Josh Pelkey-220, 7-Chris Bonneau-214, 8-Justin Quinn-209, 9-Shon Deskins-209, 10-Stevie Sussex-192.
