One week after a frustrating night at the Knoxville Raceway against the World of Outlaws, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team bounced back and scored a sixth place finish at the ‘Mecca of Mud’ on Saturday night.

Kicking the night off, Madsen set the standard during time trials, as he timed the Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply No. 18 in with a lap of 15.288 seconds, putting him atop the speed chart.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, the St. Marys, New South Wales product was able to work his way past Jason Johnson and Geoff Dodge, to score a third place finish and transfer to the feature, where he would grid the field in the eighth position.

“We had a great car from the time we unloaded,” Madsen said. “We timed in very well, and were really racy in our heat, and I knew we were capable of putting on a show in the feature from the fourth row.”

Lining up alongside Brian Brown, Madsen didn’t quite get the start he had hoped for aboard the Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes of Iowa/Stepping Stone Genetics machine, as he held on to the eight spot.

“Knoxville is a tough place to really make up ground some nights, and Saturday was one of those nights,” he explained.

Getting a run on Lucas Wolfe, Madsen took over the seventh spot around the halfway point before hooking up in a battle with Brooke Tatnell for the sixth spot.

Once into sixth, Madsen then had his hands full with Jason Johnson trying to take the spot, but Madsen was able to keep him at bay, as he scored a sixth place finish at the line.

“Overall I think it was a pretty good night,” Madsen said. “We won our very first night out, but we had a lot of work to do still, and I really think that we are gelling and getting better each week, which is a good thing for this team.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Watson’s Express Transport, and Kustom Concrete Pumping for their support.
