It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you can get back up. A fortnight after riding out a huge car–destroying wreck, Danny Reidy returned to the track last Saturday night for the 13th and penultimate KRE Sprintcar Series round at Archerfield Speedway and came away with a podium result.
Piloting a brand–new NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs supported J&J car, with his destroyed car from a fortnight ago quickly turned into a race car simulator, Reidy showed little affect from his wreck and was back on the pace from the outset.
Reidy qualified third for the feature race after a third–place finish in the top–six dash. With the first start of the feature race aborted due to pole sitter Jason Kendrick spinning out, Reidy was evaluated to pole position for the restart. He didn’t get away to the best of starts and consequently dropped back to second, before a James McFadden pass pushed Reidy back to third on the third lap. Reidy remained in third for the majority of the feature race until leader Todd Wanless made a mistake in the latter stages, which allowed both McFadden and Reidy pass. Despite his best efforts, Reidy unable to challenge McFadden and had to settle for second.
“To finish on the podium in my new car first night out is a pleasing result,” said Reidy, who had earlier in the night set the fifth fastest lap in time trials and then finished both of his heat races in sixth. “James [McFadden] has been the form driver this season, so to finish second to him isn’t something to be too disappointed about.”
Reidy will have a three–week break now prior to contesting the 14th and final round of the KRE Series on Saturday night, June 15 at Archerfield Speedway.
The Reidy Racing team would like to thank Desert Palms Resort in Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all of their 2012–13 season support.
