PETERSEN MEDIA
– With rain sidelining the Covington Motorsports team last week, Matt Covington returned to action this Saturday night and battled through the night to score a 12th place finish in the feature event.
True to form, Covington continued to get the short-end-of-the-stick in the draw, and a high pill put him in the back of his heat.
Heat race action saw Covington pick up a couple of positions aboard his T&L Foundry/Triple X/Winters machine, though it was not enough to put him in the feature, and he was forced to make a trip to the night’s B main event.
Starting on the front row of the semi, Covington hit the ‘fun button’ when the green dropped and motored his way to the B main win, and earned the transfer position into the feature event, though he would line up at the back of the pack.
Looking to get his car even better for the feature, Covington and his team went to work before the A and made some changes, that did not end up working out to their advantage, and really struggled in the feature event.
Lining up near the back of the field, Covington had his hands full when the race got underway, as he could not seems to get his Brodix/C.G. Martin Company/Factor 1 machine moving forward.
Hanging on in the 25 lap feature was tough for the Glenpool, OK driver, but he was able to and scored a 12th place finish.
“We went the complete wrong direction in the feature,” Covington said. “We needed to try something starting so far back in the feature, and what we did was not right, and we struggled.”
Matt and his Covington Racing team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2013.
2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-16, Wins-0, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-9
ON TAP: Covington will be in action at the I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.
