Heading to the Midwest to compete with Keith Kunz Racing, Rico Abreu had off to a busy start to his midget season as he picked up three top-10’s in three nights of action competing with the POWRi Series.

“Overall it was a pretty good week for the team,” Abreu said. “We had to pass some cars, but it was fun, and hopefully we can start a little closer to the front in the coming races.”

Competing with the POWRi Series in during their speedweek, Abreu got underway Thursday night at the Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, IL.

Starting on the front row of his heat race, Abreu looked right at home in his midget, after being in a full sized sprint car for much of the year thus far, as he took the early lead ,and picked up the win, putting him in the feature.

Starting 11th in the feature, Abreu was smooth aboard his Keith Kunz Motorsports/Abreu Vineyards/Toyota TRD entry, as he worked his way forward.

Battling with Michael Pickens and Austin Brown, Abreu would close the night out by tallying a sixth place finish.

Continuing to follow the POWRi national midget series in their inaugural speedweek, Abreu was in action Friday night at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, IL.

Starting seventh in his heat, the Rutherford, CA driver was able work his way up to a fourth place finish, and made the feature for the second night in a row, this time he would start back in the 15th spot.

In the feature event, Abreu got off to a slower start, as he raced outside the top-10 during the early portion of the race.

As the race wore on, Abreu was able to find some ‘wiggle’ room, as he began working his way forward.

Late in the feature, Abreu broke inside the top-10, and ended up scoring a ninth place finish after a nice race with Jerry Coons, Jr.

Saturday night was easily Abreu’s most eventful night as he took to the Macon Speedway.

Starting seventh in his heat race, Abreu didn’t make the transfer, as he finished seventh, and found himself starting 10th in the B main.

In the B, Abreu came to life as he wasted no time working his way forward, and scored a second place finish at the stripe, putting him in the 10th row for the 30-lap feature event.

Starting in the 20th spot, Abreu continued to show speed as he and fellow KKM teammate, Christopher Bell, carved their way through the field to near perfection.

Over the final half of the race, Abreu and Bell ran third and fourth, and they both challenged second running David Adler, but when it was said, and done, Abreu finished with a very strong fourth place.

“It was a blast running these first three races with the KKM guys,” Abreu said. “We had some fast race cars, and these Illinois tracks are pretty fun and racy. I can’t thank all the people who work on all these cars, they make it a pleasure to drive.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, ButlerBuilt, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld, Keith Kunz Motorsports, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and Willwood for their support.
