At just nineteen years of age, first year URC driver Brian Carber of Pipersville, PA continues to lead the Rislone URC Sprint Series point chase. Carber moved into 360 sprint car racing this season after enjoying much success in the 305 sprints. In 2012, Carber won four 305 sprint feature events and along the way, collected thirteen top five finishes and sixteen top ten finishes with his 305 sprinter. During the season he also competed in some 600 micro sprint events where he won two features and gathered twenty-three top five finishes.
URC, our nation’s oldest traveling sprint car organization, now it its’ sixty-sixth year has established a solid reputation for having some of the best sprint car drivers in the country compete on their circuit. Although just four races into a long season, Carber has even the veterans scratching their head. Making the move from a 305 sprinter to the 360 sprints, in most cases, takes some time to adjust, but for Carber, he’s competing on equal ground with some of the best of URC. Carber, driving the Carber Motorsports/Greth Racing #8c has not won a URC feature in his first four starts, but he has certainly been in contention and over the course of the four races, has gathered more points then any other driver on the URC roster to date. It’s a long, long season, but Brian Carber has certainly established himself as a contender in the early going.
Robbie Stillwaggon of Burlington, NJ is URC’s only two time winner in 2013. Art Liedl and JJ Grasso were also feature winners this season. Stillwaggon, in both his feature wins was spectacular, coming from deep in the pack to take the lead in the closing laps. Saturday night at the Grandview Speedway, Stillwaggon started ninth and caught race leader Troy Betts on the final lap to make the pass and take the victory. For Stillwaggon, driving the Fred Kennedy owned #89, it was his fifth career URC win. Stillwaggon, URC’s defending Rislone Sprint Series Champion has an eye on a second title and has risen quickly to be URC’s newest “top dog”.
Mertztown, PA driver Josh Weller is also in the URC chase. Driving for Chris Weiss in 2013, Weller is positioned third in the point chase, trailing runner-up Robbie Stillwaggon by just one point. Rounding out the top five in points is Davie “No Panic” Franek and JJ Grasso.
The coming weekend could very well mix-up the point chase with a two race weekend planned. On Friday night, June 21, URC will invade the Bedford Speedway for a full program to include the $2,000 to win 25 lap feature event. On Saturday night, June 22, URC will be in action at the Winchester, VA Speedway, with a 25 lap feature offering $2,000 to the winner.
