Continuing to come into his own during what has been an impressive 2013 to date, Ian Madsen scored two top-five finishes over the weekend, and extended his Knoxville Cup points lead.
“We have a great team, and I can’t thank Bret Nehring for everything he has done is helping us grow,” Madsen says.
Saturday night, Madsen and his KCP Racing team were in action at the Knoxville Raceway, as they continue to aim towards their goal of winning the track championship.
With 27 cars on hand, the track elected to attempt ‘group qualifying’, and during his session, Madsen would up with the fourth fastest lap of the night.
Lining up fifth in his heat, Madsen moved into the fourth spot in the first set of turns, and stayed content, as he held on to the final transfer position, and punched his ticket to the feature event.
Starting fifth in the feature event, Madsen had a solid car, but couldn’t seem to get up to the front pack and contend for the lead.
With the race track being very fast, passing was at a bit of a premium, though it was still a very exciting finish.
At the stripe, Madsen tallied yet another strong finish at the raceway, as he pocketed a fifth place finish.
Heading to Brandon, SD on Sunday night, Madsen and his team went to work at the Huset’s Speedway.
On this night, Madsen’s lucky number would be four, as four seemed to be the theme of the night.
During time trials, Madsen timed his mount in fourth fastest before scoring a fourth place finish in his heat.
In the main event, Madsen had a front row seat to a three headed battle between Tim Kaeding, Terry McCarl, and Mark Dobmeier, as he finished in the fourth spot.
“Overall I was pleased with our weekend,” he said. “We continue to get familiar with each other on a weekly basis, and we continue to put ourselves in great position. We have some great partners on this team, and I am very proud to hit the track on a nightly basis.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Stepping Stone Genetics, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Smith Precision Products, Moose Blocks, Speedway Motors, Aspen Air Inc.
