Coos Bay, OR. — (July 2, 2013) — Round four of the 2013 Bully Dog Performance Speedweek Northwest presented by Contingency Connection found the cars and stars of the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region head to Oregon’s Coos Bay Speedway on the Pacific Coast. A field of twenty-six entries would grace the venue and a hotly contested affair was in store for the fans to witness.

Cam Smith of Mill Creek, Washington would lead the entire distance after starting from the pole position. But it was by no means an easy victory for the pilot of the Dave Smith Motorsports/Don Ott Racing Engines/One Off Designs #17 Maxim. Smith would run a distinctive line on the inside of the first turns and high in the second set.

Smith would have to hold off attempts of being overtaken first by a very quick Seth Nunes of Medford, Oregon. Nunes, in his Lucas Oil Products/Napa Auto Parts/Lonnie’s Auto Body #5N Maxim, tried to make the pass on the outside several time but was unsuccessful. As the laps began to wind down traffic would come into play and looked to be the deciding factor but cautions would occur just when the leaders got close to the tail end of the lead lap field.

As Smith would lead, Nunes lost second to Steven Tiner from Visalia, California. The Western Metal Company/TSG Recycling Disposal Inc. #37 KPC of Tiner, owned by Stan Greenberg, set his sights on seizing the lead once getting by Nunes. He would have a great run on Smith and attempted to take the lead late but Tiner would spin after the door was closed on him.

Tiner miraculously kept his machine going but the incident would collect a couple of front running machines. On the final restart Smith would keep the #37 of Tiner behind him. Smith would hold on and score his first career ASCS-Northwest Region feature and become the fourth different winner in six races with ASCS-Northwest and the third different winner of Speedweek Northwest this year.

“This is why we are here,” commented Cam Smith in victory lane, “if I was able to keep the car straight the top of three and four. I kept to the bottom in one and two because nobody was able to get around me on the top so I just stuck with I knew. I got to thank all the guys working hard on this car every night.”

Steven Tiner was second followed by Princeton, California’s Mason Moore in the Moore Insurance Services Inc./LRB Race Products/Rodgers Racing Engines #22 A.R.T. in third. Forney, Texas’ Travis Rilat was fourth in the Xtreme Oilfield Technologies/Carlan Services/Tri-Jet Manufacturing Services #39C Maxim for car owner Richard Samure while defending series champion Roger Crockett from Medford, Oregon in the SKS Racing/Al Parker Racing Engines/Champion Racing Oil #11 KPC was fifth after starting thirteenth.

“Last night we were very happy running third but tonight we were disappointed getting second,” stated Steve Tiner, “I tried everything in the end. I’ve ran three different cars in the last six races and my worst finish is third so we definitely got some good momentum.”

“The wreck worked in our favor,” said Mason Moore, “we were running fifth or sixth when Tiner got underneath Cam. It moved us up to fourth and we got Nunes on the restart. We had a good car we’re having a ball running Speedweek so far.”

Winning heat races earlier in the night were Steven Tiner, the Great Western Transport/Elma Lanes #9R Eagle of Reece Goetz from Snohomish, Washington, Seth Nunes, and the Island Muffler and Brake/Cascade Metal Recycling/All Points Petroleum #7N KPC of Loomis, California’s Kyle Hirst in the Roger Henderson owned mount. Winning the twelve lap consolation feature was Brian Boswell from Roseburg in his Tyler Picknell Trucking/Rod Fauver Racing Engines #5 J&J.

The ASCS-Northwest Region will embark now to the Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon tomorrow for the Wednesday July 3rd date at the 1/3-mile clay oval. After Wednesday they will take Independence Day off for a well deserved day of rest.
