FREMONT, Ohio – Residents around Northwest and North Central Ohio are still cleaning up from the Wednesday, July 10 storms that left many without power for several days. The storm caused extensive damage at Fremont Speedway located in the historic Sandusky County Fairgrounds, toppling the scoreboard and destroying billboards.
Despite the destruction, Fremont Speedway Promoter Rich Farmer said all systems are go for racing at “The Track That Action Built” this Saturday, July 20.
“We had damage and thankfully we had scheduled this past Saturday off. But compared to what a lot of area residents had to cope with, we aren’t going to complain. Thankfully no one was injured,” said Farmer. “We are making repairs to the fencing, the fuel tank and other clean-up. We don’t know what we are going to do about a scoreboard yet but we are going to race Saturday if Mother Nature cooperates.”
Burns Petroleum Night is “Bring a Friend to the Races Night.” If the attendance record is broken Saturday, Fremont Speedway will add $100 to each of the top 10 finishing positions in the 410 and 305 sprint division features and an extra $50 to each of the top 10 finishing positions in the dirt truck feature and an extra $25 to each of the top 10 spots in the sports compacts feature.
Famer said Wednesday’s storm completely demolished the business partner billboards along the back stretch.
“We found some of the aluminum nearly a quarter mile away. We’re still missing several of the panels,” said Farmer. “We have such fantastic business partners at Fremont Speedway and we are asking for their patience as we work to get their billboards rebuilt and installed. Our business partners are talked about each week at the race track. We hope the fans support them as they support racing.”
