McIver does it again

By Daniel Powell

After dominating the HB Concrete supported Darwin 360 Sprintcar Title the previous weekend, Jason McIver backed it up with victory in the Allan King & Sons Constructions supported Northern Territory Title.

McIver, who had finished second in the preliminary feature race on the Friday behind his dad, Peter McIver, started the NT Title deciding feature race from position two, and hit the lead from the outset, and went on to lead the entire distance and picked up a comfortable victory at the fall of the chequered flag.

“Over the past two weekends, I’ve enjoyed an awesome run, and it’s a great honour to score wins in both the Darwin and Northern Territory Titles,” Jason McIver said. “I was leading the preliminary feature race until I sustained a broken wing tree and had to settle for second behind my dad, so it was pleasing to bounce back with the win on the Saturday night.”

On the Friday, the heat-race wins were claimed by Peter McIver, Jamie McInnes, Nick Halkitis, and Jason McIver. Other strong performances from the heat races came from Yoshi King, Troy King, Western Australian Ed Trutwin, Mark King, and Dale Griffin. The hard-luck story of the heat races was Western Australian visitor Luke Robinson, who crashed out of heat race three in spectacular fashion, and consequently took no further part in the night’s proceedings.

In Friday night’s preliminary feature race, Peter McIver scored the win ahead of Jason McIver and Dale Griffin in second and third respectively. Steven Ling, Mark King, David Ling, Troy King and Yoshi King completed the finishers. After qualifying second for the preliminary feature race, Halkitis was challenging for a front running spot only to crash out of contention.

Following Friday night’s incidents, both Halkitis and Robinson returned to action on the Saturday night following the hasty rebuilds of their machines. In fact, Halkitis brought out a complete new car following his crash.

Peter McIver, Jason McIver (x 2), and Halkitis shared heat-race wins earlier in the night. Mark King, McInnes, Trutwin, David Ling, and Griffin all put in strong drives in their heat races to collect points to go towards their starting positions for the feature race.

Aiming to make up for disappointingly missing out on the win the previous night, Jason McIver charged to an immediate lead from his second feature race starting position. Once out in front, he stayed there all the way through to the finish line to claim the $2,000 winner’s cheque. Despite their best efforts, Peter McIver and a gallant Halkitis were unable to challenge Jason McIver for the win and had to settle for second and third on the podium respectively. McInnes finished just off the podium in fourth, ahead of an impressive Trutwin, who was followed across the finish line by Griffin, David Ling, Robinson, Yoshi King, and Mark King.

The Northern Territory 360 Sprintcars would like to thank HB Concrete and Allan King & Sons Constructions for all of their wonderful support of the Darwin and Northern Territory Titles.
