DJ Netto 20th in Gold Cup Opener and 17th in Cottage Grove

PETERSEN MEDIA

Meeting up with the World of Outlaws in Oregon last week, DJ Netto scored a 17th place finish at the Cottage Grove Speedway before tallying a 20th place finish in the Gold Cup Opener on Friday night.

“We have struggled when we’ve raced the World of Outlaws all year, but to be honest, we learn a ton each time out, and that is invaluable to our program,” Netto said.

Hitting the Willamette Speedway on Tuesday night, Netto got off to a rough start as he timed his Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain/Bogie’s Auto Parts entry in 28th fastest, putting him behind the eight ball.

Starting 10th in his heat, Netto was able to race his way up to a seventh place finish, where he missed the transfer to the feature by one position, and was forced to run the B main.

Starting 10th in the B, Netto again was able to work his way up to the seventh position, where he just missed out on the feature event, ending his night.

Heading to the Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday night, Netto again struggled in qualifying as he timed in 25th fastest putting him in the first heat where he scored an eighth place finish.

Lining up seventh in the B, Netto was able to work himself into the feature event, as he scored a fifth place finish, putting him in the 12th row.

Starting 23rd, Netto was able to work his way up to the 17th spot as the track began taking rubber.

Though he lost a right-rear shock late in the feature, Netto was able to hang on and salvage the 17th place finish.

Heading to the Gold Cup this past Friday and Saturday, Netto again timed in 25th fastest, but with 55 cars on hand, he lined up in the third row of his heat race.

Scoring a second place finish in his heat, Netto put himself in the Dash, where he started 11th and finished 12th, putting him in the sixth row for the feature event.

Running in the 12th spot, Netto brushed an infield tire in turn two, and spun through the infield, and was forced to go to the back of the pack, where he would slavage a 20th place finish.

Saturday night was a rough night for the Hanford, CA driver as he timed in 41st quickest, and ended his night in the C main.

Closing out a busy week of racing on Sunday night at the Antioch Speedway, Netto opened his night up by timing in 22nd quick.

Starting and finishing sixth in his heat, Netto was forced to run in the night’s Last Chance Showdown where he started in the second row.

Battling for the final transfer spot with Dominic Scelzi, Netto came up just short at the line, and ended his weekend.

“Racing on all these different tracks with the best drivers in the world really does help,” he said. “When we go back to running against our regulars out here, hopefully it pays off.”

DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Bogies Auto Parts, and Vande Pol Enterprises for their support in 2013.
