(Perris, CA, September 11, 2013) The battle for the first ever Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car championship will be settled between teenagers Chancellor Tiscareno, Mitch Collins and Logan Williams this Saturday night, September 14th. Also at “The Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing” three-time USAC open wheel champion Rick Hendrix will try to increase his lead in the PAS Senior Sprint Car Series. The Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will also be in action on the Glenn Howard Memorial program. Spectator gates for the night of racing and family fun will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
Tiscareno, who resides in Menifee, comes into the final PAS Young Guns race of the year with a 9-point lead over Lake Forest’s Collins and a 15-point advantage over Williams. Heading into the last race on August 17th Tiscareno, who has extensive experience racing on asphalt, had a comfortable 18-point cushion in the championship chase. However, he was clobbered by another car in turn two on the opening lap of the main event. His car received too much damage to continue and he was done for the night. Collins finished fifth that night and sliced Tiscareno’s lead in half.

In the first five races of the year, Tiscareno has a second and two third place finishes. Collins best finish was a third and he has three fifth place finishes. Yorba Linda’s Williams, son of legendary National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams, has two wins and is the only driver in the series with more than one victory. He also has two second place finishes, but he missed the May 4th race. Had Williams not missed that race, he would have been the point leader heading into the finale. Victorville’s Trent Williams (no relation to Logan) is fourth in the standings and Menifee’s Mikey Lovas is fifth.
While the Young Guns season comes to a conclusion this weekend, the PAS Senior Sprints will still have two races to go after Saturday. Palmdale veteran Hendrix, who competed in the original CRA Series at Ascot in the 1980’s, leads defending champ Bruce Douglass of Ventura by 15-points going into Saturday’s race. Ed Schwarz of Santa Fe Springs is third and is 39-points behind the leader.
Pictured above is three-time USAC champion Rick Hendrix of Palmdale leads the PAS Senior Sprint Car Series championship standings.
Since the season opener in early March which Hendrix won and Douglass finished fifth, they have finished right in front of or right behind each other in the other five races. All of those finishes have been third or better. In the last three races Hendrix has two wins with Douglass behind him each time and Douglass has a win with Hendrix finishing second. Simi Valley’s Victor Davis, who was runner-up to Douglass last year, is fourth and Bob Alderman of Santa Ynez is fifth.
