OBERLIN, Kan. — The Colorado Region of the United Rebel Sprint Series will get one race closer to wrapping up its portion of the season Saturday night at I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo.

Entering the weekend, young gun Jake Bubak — the 2012 URSS national rookie of the year and defending region champ — leads Adam Trimble by four points for this year’s title.

 

Bubak has 1,170 points through nine races, while Trimble has 1,166 through nine races as well. Mark Walinder is third with 1,146 points in 10 races.

 

After this weekend only two more races remain to wrap up the season, the Jerry Soderburg Memorial at Dodge City Raceway Park on Sept. 28th and the rescheduled Bob Salem Memorial in Oberlin, KS on Saturday Oct. 5th. Both paying $1000 to win and $200 to start.

 

Bubak has had success at Fort Morgan, winning the night’s feature Sept. 1. It was his first win at the track.

 

The URSS has competed at I-76 Speedway 11 times since 2008. Patrick Bourke has won four features at the track.

 

Other feature winners throughout the years at Fort Morgan include Smokey Fairbank, Brian Herbert, Ty Williams, John Gerloff, Nick Haygood and Bob Schaeffer.

 

This year’s Colorado Region has seen in influx of quality drivers, making each night’s events a crowd-pleaser.

 

Through 10 Colorado Region shows, six different drivers have won features this year. Bubak leads the way with three region wins, while Trimble and Mark Walinder have two each. Ty Williams, Bourke and Mike Hathaway each have one win.

 

Pits open Saturday at 3 p.m. Mountain time, with racing to follow at 6 p.m.
