Steven Tiner has been knocking on the door of his first feature event win of the season the last few weeks, and on Friday night, Tiner led all 30-laps of the Rebel Cup Series event at the King’s Speedway in Hanford, CA to break through and take home the trophy.
“It feels great to finally get back up here and win,” Tiner said. “We have been so close several times, and hopefully we can get a couple more before the season is over.”
Lining up on the pole of the feature event by way of his fourth fastest qualifying effort, Tiner got the early jump on Andy Forsberg, who had taken a liking to the top of the speedway.
With Tiner using the bottom to near perfection aboard his BR Motorsports/King Racing Products/Wright Process Systems, he was able to keep Forsberg at bay until they quickly reeled in slower traffic.
With many cars also running the lower line, Tiner was forced to move up, to get through traffic, and took the high-side to his liking.
Running the cushion, Tiner opened the door for Forsberg who began closing in on him over the final few laps.
Though Forsberg showed Tiner his nose a few times Tiner stayed high, and it nearly cost him, as Forsberg pulled along side him with one to go.
With the white flag in the air, Forsberg stayed next to Tiner, but Tiner was able to narrowly hold him off at the line and pocketed his first win of the year.
Borrowing an engine from the Netto family, Tiner was back in action against the King of the West Series at the Tulare Thunderbowl on Saturday night.
Timing in 16th fastest, Tiner started on the front row of his heat, and scored a second place finish, missing out on the Dash, but transferring into the feature event.
Lining up in the eighth row, Tiner’s night was short lived as he fell victim to an opening lap pile up, as his machine got damaged from a flipping car.
“It was a fun weekend up until the Saturday night feature,” Tiner said. “I have to thank the Netto family for loaning us a 410 engine so we could race Saturday after Placerville got postponed. My guys worked hard all weekend, and it was nice to get a win.”
Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Elma Lanes, Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, Dan Olson Race Products, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Good Ridge, Schoenfeld, Western Metal Company, and Roseville Precision for their support in 2013.
