Dodge City, KS — (September 20, 2013) -– Sprint Cars will take to the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval one more time this season as the URSS Sprint Cars headline the Saturday night, September 28, Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event that puts the wraps on the track’s 2013 racing season.
While the URSS ranks take to the DCRP oval for the fourth and final time of the season, it also marks the finale for the track’s championship chase divisions that includes IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets.
The September 28 season finale will mark the 17th night of racing action at DCRP in 2013 and the eighth night that includes Sprint Cars. With the URSS Sprint Cars making their fourth appearance of the season, other Sprint Car action this year included the World of Outlaws double in July and the USAC Southwest twinbill in August.
Parity has prevailed among the URSS Sprint Car contenders at DCRP with three different winners thus far in 2013 and five different winners in as many events dating back to 2012.
After current URSS National points leader Jake Bubak and Mike Peters topped last year’s series events at DCRP, this year’s winners have included 2012 series champion Brian Herbert, Taylor Velasquez and most recently J.D. Johnson on July 26.
With one more event on the docket before next Saturday’s DCRP card, Colorado’s Bubak holds a mere four-point lead over Ness City’s Luke Cranston in the series National championship battle with Herbert, Ray Seemann and rookie shoe Richie Dewell rounding out the current top five.
Mike Peters is the defending winner of the DCRP season-ending event in the URSS ranks.
The track’s championship chase divisions will bolster the card as well, with Austin Allen (IMCA Modifieds), Jeff Kaup (IMCA Sport Modifieds), Billy Phelps (IMCA Stock Cars), Dustin Walker (Thunder Cars) and Jarett Lunow (Hornets) each trying to put the finishing touches on track titles.
Next Saturday’s season-ending Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event gets under way at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the season finale is just $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
