Early last week, Chad Boespflug’s car owner, Paul Hazen, had an accident while working on the team trailer, and the result was a broken ankle, and the 57 car was ultimately parked for the year. Still hoping to race, Boespflug reached out, and found an open seat in the McGhee No. 17 entry.

Piloting the car before back in 2012, Boespflug and the team seemed to be fast right away.

Barely making it to the track in time for hot-laps due to traffic, Boespflug liked what he felt heading into the night at the I 69 Speedway.

Lining up third in his heat, ‘The Hanford Hornet’, jumped out into the lead, but he had pressure from Jerry Coons, Jr. With Coons, Jr getting the best of Boespflug, Boespflug finished second but was still in the night’s redraw.

Lining up fifth in the feature event, Boespflug slowly worked his way to the front, as he chased after Gary Taylor, but halfway through the race, his car developed a nasty vibration, and Boespflug slowly drifted back to the fifth spot at the finish.

Heading to the Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night to take on the USAC National Series, Boespflug timed the McGhee No. 17 machine in 11th fastest putting him in the second row of his heat race.

Working into the second spot in his heat, Boespflug chased after Scotty Weir, and managed to slide up in front of him, and take the lead and ultimately the win, transferring into the feature event.

Starting 10th in the feature, Boespflug worked into the eighth position as the race wore on, and as it wore on, the field was stretched out, and he focused on running clean laps.

At the stripe he finished in the eighth spot.

Heading to Waynesfield on Sunday, rain blanketed the area, but officials still elected to try and get the show in.

Lining up fifth in his heat on a track that was still fairly wet, Boespflug was hard on the throttle in the take-four heat and trouble was ahead.

With the yellow flag out due to a false start, the pole sitter immediately got on his brakes causing Gary Taylor to also do so.

Behind Taylor, Boespflug got on his brakes, and as Taylor veered to avoid the slower car, Boespflug made contact with his right-rear and went for a nasty ride, ending the team’s night, before the event was ultimately rained out.

“I have to thank the everyone who made this weekend possible,” Boespflug said. “I wish Paul a speedy a recovery, and with him getting hurt, I was in a scramble. We had a great car all three night’s it is just really unfortunate what happened on Sunday.”

ON TAP: With the season winding down, Chad will take this weekend off before returning to action hopefully the following weekend.
