Heartland Raceway, located on the Victorian-NSW border, is becoming quite a successful track for Jeremy Cross. Last Saturday night for the opening round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series, he recorded his second feature-race win there from as many starts at the track.

After tasting his first Heartland Raceway feature-race success back in the 2011-12 season, Cross returned to the 500-metre track and once again raced to another feature-race victory. On this occasion, he started from position three in the feature-race field. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing, after a bad start saw him fall back to sixth, but he recovered. He managed to work his way into podium contention after half-a-dozen laps and by the middle stages of the 30-lap event he had moved into the lead. From there, he remained out in front, but the race was declared on the 21st lap due to a large crash back in the field by Ryan Davis.

“It is certainly not the way that you want to win a feature race, with it being declared early, but a driver’s safety is always paramount and I hope Ryan (Davis) gets back out on the track sooner rather than later,” the Central NSW-based racer said. “Our team has a really good track record at Heartland Raceway, with two wins from as many starts. It is a track that requires a good and consistent car setup and the driver to be committed all the way around.”

Cross, earlier in the night, took out the win in his opening heat race and then followed that performance up with a fifth place in his second heat race. Those two results earned him a spot in the pole shootout. After going into the shootout fourth on points, he was able to advance to third, and that was his feature race starting spot.

The driver of the NSW # 39 Tyreright supported Maxim will be next in action on Saturday night, November 16, for the second round of the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series at Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier, South Australia.

Cross would like to thank his dad, Frank, along with his crew chief, Spike, and Craig Foster for all of their support.
