Forney, TX — (March 10, 2014) — Following an emotional victory in memory of a longtime friend one month ago, Travis Rilat carries momentum into the start of his sprint car season in the United States this weekend.
Coming off a monumental triumph at the Tyson Perez Memorial on Feb. 8 at Borderline Speedway in Australia, Rilat will debut stateside this Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“Any time you come off a win it gives you increased confidence,” he said. “But it also makes expectations pretty high for the next race. Everybody wants to go out there and win them all.”
Rilat has enjoyed success at Royal Purple Raceway, which is a 3/8-mile oval that has a giant fan base.
“We run pretty good there so we hope to do well this weekend,” he said. “Typically they fill the stands close to capacity. It’s a fun place to go. The racing surface is beautiful. The facilities are excellent. The number of fans in the grandstands make things a lot more fun. After all, we are all show performers. The bigger the audience the bigger you’ve got to perform.”
Rilat has a victory and three podium finishes in four races at Royal Purple Raceway the past two seasons.
“It gets slick and up around the top,” he said of the track. “Typically it is up around the cushion and momentum is key. The goal is to keep the car free enough to run the cushion.”
