Making his first two starts at the historic Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA over the weekend, DJ Netto can chalk it up as success as he made both feature events, and got a ton of track time on the speedway.
“Anytime you go to a new track it’s tricky, but we were able to make both feature events with the World of Outlaws, and we got better, and that is huge,” Netto said.
Saturday night Netto was a bit on the tight side during time trials on the extremely heavy and fast track, and he timed the Netto Ag/Penny Newman Grain entry in 27th fastest, putting them in an early hole.
Starting scratch on the field in his heat, Netto, finished in the same spot, as passing was at an extreme premium early in the night.
Lining up ninth in the LCS, Netto was able to make a couple of nice passes on Todd Wanless and Jacob Allen to get himself the final transfer position for the feature event.
On a tricky track in the feature event, Netto was patient on a track that was still tough to pass on, and with just five laps to go, he was involved in a wreck as cars were tangling in front of him, and he was scored with a 20th place finish.
Changing engines for Sunday night’s event, Netto saw a little improvement as he timed in 21st fastest, but still was unable to transfer out of his heat race.
Lining up third in the LCS, Netto felt pressure from Austen Wheatley early, but he was able to distance himself, as he took a fourth place finish, and moved into the main event.
Putting his machine in the 10th row for the feature event, Netto searched around the slick surface, as he expieramented on the thick cushion, and worked the bottom at times, as he took notes from the cars in front of him.
When the 25-lap feature came to a close, Netto took home an 18th place finish.
“In retrospect it was probalbly good we didn’t transfer out of our heat both nights, so I could make more laps on a track I had never been on before,” Netto said. “It was tricky to get used to, but hopefully when we come back with the KWS this summer, we can be even better.”
DJ and his Netto Racing team would like to thank Netto Agriculture, Penny Newman Grain, Bogies Auto Parts, and Vande Pol Enterprises for their support in 2014.
ON TAP: Netto will continue on with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars as he follows them to the Hanford, CA on Friday night before he kicks off his rookie campaign with the King of the West Series on Saturday night in Tulare, CA.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-12, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
