Following a very strong run at the Stockton Dirt Track earlier this season, Andy Gregg and his Russell Motorsports team opted to head back to the San Joaquin Valley speedway on Saturday night for an open competition event, and the choice proved to be a good one, as Gregg picked up his second win of the season aboard his Mike’s Hard Lemonade entry.
“It was a great night for us at Stockton,” Gregg said. “The Russell Motorsports 14R car ran very well here back in March, so when we saw this race on the schedule, we were really excited to go back there and see what we could do.”
With 26 cars checked into the pit area at the always exciting Stockton Dirt Track, Gregg timed his Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Capitol Ace Hardware/Thompson’s Auto Car entry in eight fastest.
Winning his heat race, the Placerville, CA driver earned a berth in the Dash, where he climbed from fifth to finish second, putting him on the front row of the feature event.
When the race went green, Gregg slipped back to the second spot, as he chased after early leader, Cory Eliason, and second running, Chase Johnson.
Getting better as the laps clicked off, Gregg took over the second spot in the closing laps, and began to chase after Eliason, and took advantage of his misfortune, and took the lead with just a few laps to go.
With no serious challenge in the closing laps, Gregg went on to pick up a very impressive win on the area’s newest track.
“It is awesome to come out here and get a win at this place (Stockton),” Gregg said. “We had a really good car, and once we got to second, had our work cut out for us chasing down the 27 car with just a few laps to go, but unfortunately for him he had some issues. We have lost races like that so we will take the other side of it and move on.”
Gregg was also in action on Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA aboard his GUTS Racing owned Miller Fortune/Poor’s Equipment Repair/K&N backed entry.
Continuing to show serious speed at the ¼ mile speedway, Gregg timed in with quick time before charging from fourth to win his heat.
Pulling a five pill in the re-draw, Gregg lined up fifth in the feature, and worked his way up to the third spot, before he began to battle with a left rear tire going flat.
Racing as hard as he could with tire issues, Gregg ultimately lost the handle on his machine with the flat, and was relegated to an 11th place finish.
“Our team has so much speed at Chico, that I enjoy getting up there on a weekly basis, but we seem to have some sort of bad luck when we get up there,” he added. “With a Civil War race up there this week, I’m hoping we can stay fast in the Russell Motorsports car, and hopefully shake this bad luck. I have to thank all of the guys for all off their hard work with another two race weekend.”
