– A lot of speed and some tough luck as made 2014 a frustrating year for Matt Mitchell, but Saturday night at the Perris Auto Speedway, Mitchell seemingly had a complete night as he picked up his first win of the season.

With 25 cars on hand for the USAC/CRA event at the PAS on Saturday night, Mitchell timed his Pit Boss Jacks/Campbell Brothers Storage/MPD backed no. 37 entry in sixth fastest.

Heat race action saw the Yorba Linda, CA driver pick up a second place finish, after a nice drive from his fifth place starting spot,  and then he ultimately found himself starting on the front row of the 30-lap feature event.

With Cory Kruseman to his outside, Mitchell was hard on the throttle when the green flag dropped, as he rocketed into the lead.

With that speed that he has shown all year, Mitchell was stout all night up front, as it was apparent he would not be denied on this night.

At the halfway point, Mitchell began being challenged by Damion Gardner, and though Gardner was able to slide in front of him, Mitchell answered the call and assumed the top spot.

Late in the race it was Richard Vander Weerd and Austin Williams behind him, Mitchell was able to keep his machine up front, and was able to pick up his first win of the 2014 season.

“2014 has been wild,” he said. “We have been pretty fast in both our 360 and 410, but we haven’t been able to put complete nights together. I knew if we stayed at it, things would turn, and tonight they finally did. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of their hard work, and continuing to fight through the bad times. Those bad nights make this that much more sweet.”

Matt would like to thank Pit Boss Jacks, Campbell Brothers Storage, MPD, and ART Speed Equipment for their support in 2014.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-18, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-12
