Competing in a race that one of his best friends, Peter Murphy, spent countless hours putting together, it was fitting that at the end of the night, Jonathan Allard was standing on top of the podium shaking champagne over the crowd, celebrating his 38th career King of the West Win as he triumphed during Saturday night’s Peter Murphy Classic in Tulare, CA.
“Without a doubt, this is a very special win for me,” a jubilant Allard said. “Peter and I are very close friends, and I can’t thank him enough for making this happen. This is a huge win for me, and I am happy to pick it up for the entire Tri-C Motorsports team.
With 32 cars on hand for the high-octane event, Allard timed the Tri-C Manufacturing/Red Line Oil/ButlerBuilt No. 3C machine in third fastest, putting him in the third heat.
On the immaculately prepared Thunderbowl, Allard was able to work into the second spot during heat race action, putting him directly into the feature event, as well as the nights Pole Shuffle, that took place of the Dash.
Ending up sixth in the shuffle, Allard lined his machine up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event, and quickly took a liking to the high, scary, side of the Thunderbowl.
Working into the third spot in the early stages, Allard Chased after Kyle Hirst and Carson Macedo, while he found Brent Kaeding all over his rear bumper.
A restart on the seventh lap saw Allard drop back to the fourth spot, but he continued to ride the cushion, as you could throw a blanket over the front-runners until the 15th lap when the caution flew.
The restart saw Allard move into the second spot as Kaeding took command of the race, but Allard didn’t let BK get to comfortable in the top spot, as he used his momentum from the cushion to take the lead exiting turn four on the 19th lap, and went on to lead the final 11 laps, en route to the very popular win.
“We had a great car all night, and I can’t thank Clyde and Marion Lamar, and this entire team for sticking behind me and working so hard.”
Friday night saw Allard and his team check in at the Silver Dollar Speedway, where Allard kicked the night off by timing in with the fastest lap during qualifications.
Having a bit of a hiccup in heat race action, Allard finished in the fifth spot, thus missing the redraw, finding himself lining up in the ninth spot for the feature event.
Though he was deep in the field, the Chico, CA driver stayed poised as he carved his way to the front of the field, and began battling with Sean Becker, Andy Gregg, and Andy Forsberg.
Getting into the second spot, Allard did everything he could to get around Forsberg, but it wasn’t meant to be on this night, as he recorded a second place finish.
“Overall it was a great weekend for our team,” he added. “We have been so consistent as of late, it is great for all involved. We will keep digging, and hopefully we can pick up a few more wins.”
