From Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA — (April 18, 2015) — Another solid roster of entries packed the pit area of Placerville Speedway for Saturday’s Red Hawk Casino Championship point racing presented by Thompson’s Auto Centers. Steven Tiner of Elverta drive to victory in the Domco Plumbing Sprint Car division.
In the Sprint Car division, 25 cars formed the roster Saturday night for a full evening of racing including heats, a b feature and an a feature event. In qualifying Placerville’s Andy Gregg of Placerville drive his Scott Russell owned Gen Landscape Management to the fastest lap of the night. Gregg garnered a 10:954 second lap, earning him the weekly $100 ADCO Driveline fast qualifier award.
The first heat race victory of the night was scored by Justin Johnson of Shingle Springs. Jake Morgan of Fair Oaks won the second heat of the night. Tiner took home the win in the third and final heat race. The B main event was claimed by Sacramento’s Bobby Butler who transferred into the A feature with the likes of Chico’s Kevin Sharrah, Chris Masters, Scott Parker of Coursgold and Matt Barber of Placerville.
In the 25-lap A- feature, Tiner started on the outside of the second row and raced in Morgan’s wake for the opening laps aboard the Wright Process Systems #94. Morgan started on the pole and shot into the lead at the waving of the green flag with Placerville’s top guns hot on his tail including Gregg, Jimmy Trulli of Placerville, Tiner and Matt Peterson of Wilton.
Tiner powered his way around Morgan within the first seven laps of the event while Gregg pursued him in the second position. Morgan then battled for third with defending track champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove while Tiner began to distance himself from the field and work his way into lapped traffic. At the checkered flag Tiner picked up the win followed by Gregg, DeCaires overtook Morgan for the third spot. Morgan finished in fourth followed by Peterson in fifth.
