McClelland wins at Lawton

Lawton, OK — (April 25, 2015) — For the past two weeks Sean McClelland has had to settle for second place finishes.

In the AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories Oil Capital Racing Series opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway on March 28 McClelland finished behind first time winner Nigel Calvert. Two weeks later at Outlaw Motor Speedway it was another second place finish, this time it was behind Robert Sellers who also won for the first time.

“We can second place them to death,” smiled McClelland. “Second place is better then dead last.”

Saturday night at Lawton Speedway started much the same way as Chad Koch charged into the early lead of the 25-lap feature and McClelland followed into second.

“I knew he was going to get the jump on me so I let it go,” McClelland said of the opening laps of the feature. “I followed him a few laps to see where he was going to run. I kept showing my nose a few times and maybe spooked him a couple of times. He never did rattle.”

But this time was different and the patience paid off for McClelland after 10 laps. The three-time OCRS champion put a slide on Koch entering turn one and came away with the lead. McClelland led the remaining 14 laps for the AmeriFlex / OCRS win in his D&E Supply sponsored number 1 sprinter.

“He went in there and made one mistake and that was all we needed,” McClelland said of his pass for the lead. “He jumped the cushion in three and four and got too tight and went up the race track. I got just enough run on him to make a slide job on him.

“He is young and got a lot to learn, but he did a good job.”

McClelland went on to win by a 2.3 second margin over Koch, but in the final laps McClelland could feel his engine slightly overheating.

“The motor soured up there a little bit at the end. It got a little warm and started missing a little bit,” McClelland said.

Koch followed McClelland across the finish line for a OCRS career best second place finish and was awarded a Hoosier Tire from DSO Engines for his efforts. Sheldon Barksdale chased Koch to a third place finish and took home a case of Amsoil from Grady Oil, Whit Gastineau received a $100 certificate from Maxim Racing for his fourth place finish and Outlaw Motor Speedway victor Robert Sellers rounded out the top five.

The 38-car field resulted in two WESMAR B Features and Shane Sellers made his pole starting position stand for the win and a transfer into the main event in the second B main. Joe Bob Lee, Jerry Bruner and Shayla Waddell rounded out the four transfer positions.

Rookie Brett Wilson started outside front row and sped into the lead to win the first B main over Kyle Ezell, Fred Mattox and Glen Passmore.

Cord Dodson was awarded the D&E Supply Hard Luck after taking a series of hard flips in the second Wesmar B-Feature. He was not seriously injured.
