(July 6, 2015) – London, Ontario – Ryan Litt and the BS&B Radiator racing team went to victory lane at Toledo Speedway’s King of the Wing Sprint Car Shootout. They’re planning to be back in the Buckeye State with the Lairjet #88 Supermodified for Sandusky Speedway’s Hy-Miler Nationals at the end of July.
A good field of 21 cars signed in for the Toledo event. Things didn’t start out well for the the #07 Sprint Car, as mechanical problems hampered their efforts.
“A brake line fitting broke, and we also had a fuel issue going on,” Ryan said. “We didn’t find (it) until after qualifying, so we struggled to find the speed we needed.”
Ryan’s lap of 13.045 seconds around the high-banked half mile was good for 9th overall in time trials. Heat races were cancelled due to an impending weather front and the 40 lap feature race was quickly lined up. A roll of the dice determined an inversion of 10 for the feature starting lineup.
“We got lucky and started P2 for the race, which was great because clean air is a big factor at high speed tracks like Toledo.” Ryan observed. “We had a good start and took off from the green. I knew from last year that the extra ten laps added to the race causes some tire wear to factor in, so I made sure to be really smooth. I wanted to make sure my tire would be there at the end so I was really trying to keep the car straight and not get loose.”
More problems surfaced in the feature, but Ryan was able to overcome the issues and stay out front through several restarts to take his first feature win of the season.
“We were fighting a bad vibration the whole race which made it tougher to see, and (I) also had some oil blowing onto my gas pedal. It was a real struggle the last ten laps to not only see, but maintain a quick pace. It was a big relief to cross the finish line first. Our team has been working really hard this year trying to make sure we have a fast, reliable car. Many long nights have been spent in the garage, and it’s really rewarding to bring home that big trophy and cheque.”
Toledo Speedway is less than an hour from the Ambassador Bridge, and is a favourite of Canadian fans. Their presence was especially appreciated this time, in light of the gloomy weather forecast.
“It’s a nice feeling – being the only Canadian competitor – to have some hometown fans travel down and watch us,” said Ryan. “(It) means a lot to myself and the team, and gives us a little extra motivation. Glad I could give them something to cheer about.”
