Placerville, CA- After a torrid battle up front, Carson Macedo was in the right place at the right time as he capitalized on a Sean Becker mistake to take command of the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic and race his was to the lucrative win as he became the Civil War Series Presented by Flowmaster’s eighth different winner in 2015.
It was Cory Eliason and Sean Becker leading the field to green at the high-banked quarter mile facility, and it was all Eliason early as Sean Becker stayed right in his wake.
As Eliason and Becker duked it out up front, the battle behind them was just as exciting as Carson Macedo, Jonathan Allard, and Kyle Hirst all raced for position within the Top-Five as the lead duo slowly broke away.
Lap 15 would be good to Becker as the Roseville, CA driver was able to use lapped traffic to his advantage as he took the lead from Eliason, though the duo would race wheel-to-wheel for the next three laps until the caution flag waived.
As Macedo moved into the second spot on the redraw, he would chase after Becker, and the battle for the lead would heat up. On lap 20, Becker would get two high in turns one and two and his machine would get up over the thick cushion that had built up and Macedo capitalized as he took the race lead as Allard and Hirst followed suit.
The trio up front would fight hard as they got back into traffic, and Maedo would continue to set the pace as the caution flag flew with just five laps to go and gave the leaders clear track.
Macedo would be flawless in the race’s final five laps as he worked the bottom of the speedway to perfection and picked up the 10th Annual Mark Forni Classic and bagged the $10,000 that came with it.
“I can’t say enough about my team, and this car,” Carson Macedo said. “We have been really good lately and it is nice to finally put this thing in victory lane in front of a huge crowd. The Tarlton family has been so good to me, I am really happy to win this race for all of them.”
Though he would come up short, Jonathan Allard was pleased with his second place finish during Saturday night’s feature.
“We are really pleased to be up on the podium and I am happy for Carson Macedo,” Allard said. “This race would have been a big win for us as it honored Mark Forni who was a great guy. I have to thank Clyde and Marion Lamar and my guys for their support.”
Rounding out the podium was inaugural Mark Forni Classic winner, Kyle Hirst.
“I love racing Placerville Speedway, and always have a good time in front of all of these great fans,” Hirst said. “Week in and week out it seems like we battle with Carson Macedo and Jonathan Allard, and I commend both them and their teams on a great night of racing. My guys did a great job, and I have to thank Dennis and Theresa Roth for letting us come out.”
Eliason would run fourth, Becker fifth, Matt Peterson six, Shane Golobic seventh, Justin Sanders eighth, Andy Gregg 9th, and Andy Forsberg would round out the Top-10.
With 29 cars checking in at the Placerville Speedway for the track’s highest paying event ever, Kyle Hirst led the way in time trials by setting the bar at a 10.819 second lap.
Heat race wins went to Tyler Walker, Carson Macedo, Jonathan Allard, and Sean Becker, while Cory Eliason won the Dash.
The 12-lap B Main was won by Colby Wiesz, as Mason Moore, Shawn Wright, Steven Tiner, Koen Shaw, and James Sweeney also earned transfers into the feature event.
