Tulsa Okla. (August 31, 2015) – There are just four more events remaining on the Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series sprint car schedule for 2015 and two of those will take place this Labor Day weekend as we head down the back stretch for the final time this season.
Friday night will see the series trek down the 412 Highway for a 30-lap affair at the Flint Creek Speedway where a doubleheader of its own making will take place as the ASCS Red River Region sprint cars will also be on the program. This event is being billed as the ‘Labor Day Sprintacular’. This will be the second trip for the Ameri-Flex / OCRS series to Flint Creek as series points leader Robert Sellers took the win in May.
Saturday is “Bonus Money” night in the state of Kansas where the Caney Valley Speedway will see the Ameri-Flex / OCRS teams compete for a $1500 to win prize. The 30 lap main event will also pay a minimum of $275 to start. Jamie Passmore was victorious at Caney Valley in a May outing while Shane Sellers took honors during the 4th of July race when he had to chase down a determined Michael Tyre in an exciting race.

BIG Announcement Made:
It was announced at the Harold Leep Classic at the Outlaw Motor Speedway that the Tulsa OK based Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories would return in 2016 as the series title sponsor. By making the announcement at this time, it gives the race teams awareness that the support from Ameri-Flex is solid as ever as we look towards the future. Ameri-Flex is as loyal as they come and OCRS thanks their lucky stars on a nightly basis that this great company chooses to support our series.
Deposit Slips Needed:
Whit Gastineau is on a tear lately. The Moore OK driver has won four of the last five main events including the Harold Leep Classic. Gastineau pocketed $4470 ($820 in HLC lap money) from this past weekend alone! So much for the minimum pay wage.
Lovin’ Those Lap Sponsors:
Zach Chappell has got to be a fan of lap sponsors. The Talala pilot snatched a total of $1902 from the HLC race for his nights hard work. Of that amount, Chappell took in $1232 in lap money alone! $222 of that was from long time race fan Jerry Medlin, who put up the money as a tribute to the Ray Cates owned number 2 supermodified cars that Leep drove back in the 1060’s and early 70’s. Thanks to Mr. Medlin and ALL THE SPONSORS who supported the Harold Leep Classic.
Aint Nothin’ But A Thang:
Not raced in awhile? Needing to knock off a little ‘race rust?’ The Ameri-Flex / OCRS series welcomed back former champion Mike Goodman after a 2+ year hiatus from the series. Last time Goodman took to the track with OCRS, the 4am machine did the Olympic style version of a bad dismount with a worse landing at the Thunderbird Speedway. Goodman returned to the Travis Jenkins owned sprinter and won one of two Wesmar B-Feature’s then ran a solid third in the Harold Leep Classic. No Liquid Wrench needed here.
Real Tough Crowd:
In all, there were five former Ameri-Flex / OCRS champions in the Harold Leep Classic pit area. They were: Mike Goodman, Sean McClelland, Jamie Passmore, Andrew Deal and Danny Smith (non-wing champion). That is the most number of former champions the series has ever had at a race in one time. These drivers represented 91 A-feature wins among them dating back to the year 2010.
Let’s Do The Shuffle:
The stars are aligned for a few position shuffles in the point standings during these last four races on the schedule. Only 99 points separate third place to eighth place. Whit Gastineau was in 12th place on July 19th and with a pack of wins as of late, he is now 7th and just 34 markers from fifth.
Father Versus Son:
One thing we know today, the 2015 Harold Leep Championship Trophy will have the name Sellers on it. Whether it’s Robert or his son Shane is what remains to be seen. Robert only needs 39.3 points per race (out of a possible 95 per race) to take the title. Shane will likely need dad to have a problem along the way to capitalize and in auto racing, we have all seen late season problems happen to point leaders a lot. 2015 is going to produce the sixth different champion in series history, we just aren’t sure what the first name will be just yet.
In The Batters Circle:
Oklahoma Sports Park is waiting anxiously for the Ameri-Flex / OCRS teams as the 9th Annual Oklahoma State Championships presented by Dooling Machine Products are set for September 12th. The $2000 to win event is looking to be one great program and thanks to the backing of Dooling Machine Products, it will be. Track website is www.oklahomasportspark.com. Last year, Fred Mattox took the OSC crown after several instances of coming close in the past.
And Now The Teaser:
During the special announcement last Friday that Ameri-Flex Hose & Accessories is returning as the title sponsor for 2016, the race teams were also told that there was another BIG announcement for them. However, they were informed that the other BIG announcement would be forthcoming during the 2015 Ameri-Flex / OCRS awards banquet. Just a little teaser till the night we officially crown our new champion. Don’t plan those 2016 vacations yet drivers. BIG news ahead.
