Legendary race car driver Tony Elliott has died following a plane crash in Walhalla, South Carolina Elliott along with four friends were on their way to the Notre Dame / Clemson Football game when their plane on the shore of Lake Hartwell in a remote area about 20 miles outside of Clemson. WNDU news out of South Bend confirmed with Elliott’s brother in law he had passed away in the accident.
Elliott was a multiple time USAC champion in the sprint car division, winning in all three National divisions, along with countless other open wheel racing locally in Indian and around the world. After Elliott scaled back his driving career he enthusiastically sold trailers through Elliott trailer sales and was a regular fixture around races all over the country. To say Elliott was widely known throughout the world in the racing community would be a gross understatement.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Elliott’s family and numerous friends.
