Rossburg, OH – (October 10, 2015) – Robert Ballou put on a rim riding clinic during Saturday’s Mo Vaughn Trucking Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series season finale as part of the UNOH Sprintacular at Eldora Speedway. Ballou took the lead from Dustin Smith on five and dominated the remainder of the 25-lap affair.
During the week Ballou put together a different car than he utilized at Eldora during the 4-Crown Nationals.
“This car is about 10 years old probably, it was an ex-Danny Smith car. I haven’t run this car since 2011. We took all of the parts off of the other car and put this thing together,” said Ballou in victory lane. “This is one hell of a Maxim chassis. I have to thank Derek, we busted our butts to get this thing put together. We finished it about 2:00 this afternoon. It was good from the time we started.”
Dustin Smith jumped into the lead while a pack of cars raced for second with Robert Ballou coming out with the spot with Dallas Hewitt and Logan Jarrett in tow. Ballou quickly closed on Smith for the top spot and powered by with a slide job on lap five to take the top spot.
Tyler Courtney and Logan Jarrett raced for fourth on lap six until Courtney took the spot off turn four. Chad Boesfplug followed Courtney one lap later into fifth. Ahead of them Dustin Smith bobbled on lap seven and allowed Dallas Hewitt to slide by him for second.
Up front though Ballou built up a five second lead as he entered slower traffic on lap 10. Balllou did make contact with a slower car, but kept going and maintained the lead.
Another driver making a big charge was Bryan Clauson, knocking on the door of the top five 14 laps into the event. Three laps later Clauson was into the top five and charging. With eight laps to go Boespflug got a run and moved past Hewitt for second. Clauson followed suit one circuit later into third with six laps to go. With six laps to go the caution flag appeared for debris in turns one and two, wiping out Ballou’s seven second lead.
During the restart Ballou pulled away while Clauson slide by Boespflug for second. Clauson then began to close in on Ballou for the lead. Ballou though seemingly found an extra gear and pulled away from Clauson for the victory. Clauson finished in the runner up spot with Boespflug, Hunter Schuerenberg from 19th, and Scotty Weir rounded out the top five.
Shawn Westerfield, Ballou, J.T. Stapp, Tyler Courtney, Scotty Weir, and Cody Gardner won heat race events. During the second heat race Brandon Moore got upside down on the front stretch. Brandon exited the car under his own power. Joss Moffit took a wild tumble in the second B-Main while Kent Wolters also tipped over during the second B-Main event. After the finish Brandon Spithaler turned over between turns three and four. All drivers were uninjured.
