The Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic will return to Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio for the 2016 season. Brad Doty announced the move on Tuesday’s edition of MRN’s Winged Nation. The Doty Classic was held from 1989 to 2005 at Attica before moving to Limaland Motorsports Park in 2006.
The Doty Classic also gets a new race date of Tuesday July 12th with a rain date of Wednesday July 13th. Attica Raceway Park general manager Rex LeJeune indicated this move was in tandem with the expansion of the Kings Royal to a three day event and being able to have a rain date available the same week.
“I am very excited that the Brad Doty Classic is coming back to Attica Raceway Park, but I really appreciate everything that all the staff at Limaland Motorsports Park has done over the years to grow the race into the big event that it has become,” says race co-promoter, Brad Doty. “I will miss working with all of them!”
The event started as a tribute and benefit to Doty following his injury in a crash during the Kings Royal in 1988. The event evolved into Doty becoming a partner in promoting it, becoming one of the most high profile events in sprint car racing. With uncertainty about Attica in 2006 the event moved to Limaland Motorsports Park. Following a complete rain out this past season combined with growth of the event all the parties involved were on board with the move to Attica including UNOH President Dr. Jeff Jarvis.
“Brad Doty is a great partner and friend of ours, and this year’s rain out upset me especially for Brad. The fact is that the Brad Doty Classic has outgrown our facility at Limaland Motorsports Park. By moving the Brad Doty Classic to Attica Raceway Park, you have more seating, more parking and camping spaces and less of a possibility of a rainout on the fairgrounds. All of these things along with Eldora’s announcement make it an easy decision to move the race to Attica. The last ten years of the Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park have been fantastic and have helped put Limaland Motorsports Park on the map. But bottom line, I believe this move is in the best interest of everyone involved and will allow the Brad Doty Classic to continue to become an even bigger event”
Ticket information will be forthcoming.
