Tulare, CA — (December 19, 2015) — The Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway has released its 2016 schedule of events, which as always, puts a focus on special shows throughout the campaign.
A total of 11 nights of action will be featured at the Tulare County Fairgrounds based one-third mile clay oval this coming season. Highlights include the traditional double header weekend on Friday & Saturday March 11 & 12 showcasing the national traveling World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
For the second straight year the March extravaganza will be co-sanctioned by the California based King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series. The USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series will be on hand both nights, while the Western RaceSavers will also compete during the Saturday finale.
Other highlights on the schedule include the annual Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on Saturday May 14, the third annual Peter Murphy Classic on Friday & Saturday July 22 & 23, the KRC Safety Fall Shootout on Saturday October 8 & the season ending 23rd annual Southwest Contractors Trophy Cup on Thursday, Friday & Saturday October 20, 21 & 22. All the top drivers from California & beyond will converge at the Trophy Cup, in what has become the “Grand Daddy” of California Sprint Car racing.
The Peter Murphy Classic has also grown to be a big part of the Thunderbowl Raceway season and expands to a double header weekend this coming summer. The King of the West 410’s, USAC West Coast 360’s, USAC Western Midgets & Western RaceSaver Sprints make up traveling divisions that have a heavy presence at the track. Dirt Modifieds will also make their return during the Faria Memorial in May.
Tickets are on sale for the much anticipated March 11 & 12 World of Outlaws/King of the West/USAC weekend by calling 559-688-0909. All seating is reserved in the house, with Grandstand tickets $45 & Bleacher tickets $40 each night. This past season saw 46 Winged 410 Sprint Cars invade the facility for the first ever co-sanctioned event between the two series. The Merle Stone Chevrolet Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare, California. From the junction of SR 99 and SR 137, go west on SR 137. At South K go south one-half mile to the Fairgrounds.
