Somerton, AZ — (December 21, 2015) — The 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown will once again feature NASCAR stars.
Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson, who both rose from the dirt ranks into the premier NASCAR series, are set to return to the marquee 410ci winged sprint car event at Cocopah Speedway on Jan. 1-2, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9.
Additionally, Rico Abreu and Christopher Bell, who are touted as two future NASCAR notables, have also pre-entered to compete at the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown, which features $12,000-to-win, $1,000-to-start races on Jan. 1-2 and Jan. 8-9 with the midweek race on Jan. 5 rewarding the winner $5,000. There is also a $10,000 points fund.
“It means a lot to have Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson return to their roots at the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown,” Cocopah Speedway General Manager Greg Burgess said. “Both have a World of Outlaws driver competing as well so we really appreciate their support. It’s also been neat watching Rico Abreu and Christopher Bell rise throughout the ranks in racing and we’re excited to see them join a storied roster of top-notch drivers competing at the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown.”
While Kahne will race in his own equipment, Larson, who claimed one of the inaugural Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown features last January, will pilot a sprint car owned by California veteran Paul Silva, who primarily serves as the crew chief for Abreu’s sprint car team.
Abreu was twice victorious – with Bell finishing second both nights – during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at the semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval in early 2014.
A tentative driver roster of competitors who have either sent in preregistration forms or verbally committed to competing is posted at http://CocopahWinterHeat.com/fan-info/driver-roster/.
