Lake Odessa, MI — (July 3, 2016) — Sheldon Haudenschild completed a weekend sweep of the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions swing through Michigan with his victory during the Dirt 30 Sunday night at I-96 Speedway. Haudenschild ended up leading all 55 laps of feature competition during the two-day swing through the Great Lakes State including all 30 laps at I-96. Similar to Friday’s win at Hartford Motor Speedway Haudenschild had to endure multiple restarts including a green/white/checkered finish. The win was Haudenschild’s fifth of the season.
“Couldn’t do this without my guys Bonz, Zach, and everybody that works on this car. To win two races in one weekend is really big for us,” said Haudenschild in victory lane.
Haudenschild started on the front row with Cap Henry for the feature event. Following a red flag for a flip by T.J. Micheael in turn one Haudenschild led the opening lap with Henry and Dale Blaney in pursuit. On lap three Blaney moved into second going down the front stretch and set out after Haudenschild. Blaney’s pursuit was short lived through when Blaney has a mechanical issue and pulled his car into the infield as the feature remained under green flag conditions.
Following Blaney dropping out of the event Holtgraver inherited the second spot while Henry found himself under siege from Chad Kemenah for the third spot. Up front though Haudenschild was overtaking slower traffic at a torrid pace as Holtgraver tried to keep the leader in sight.
On lap 13 the caution flag appeared again when Taylor Ferns stopped in turn one.
Haudenschild motored away from the field during the restart. Kemenah continued to work on Henry for the third spot, finally getting by Henry on lap 15. Further back Kraig Kinser started to make his presence felt after starting 10th moving into the top five.
The caution flag appeared again on lap 23 when Chase Ridenour slid off the track in turn one. Haudenschild was up to the challenge again during the restart pulling away from the field. Kinser continued to move up disposing of Henry for the fourth spot and immediately putting pressure on Kemenah for third and took advantage of a run off turn four to take the spot from Kemenah.
Haudenschild had opened a full straightaway lead until the caution appeared on the final lap when Kory Crabtree suffered front end damage and shot off the track in turn four.
This setup a green, white, checkered finish. Haudenschild duplicated his success on restarts to drive away from the field for the victory. Holtgraver held off Kinser for second while Kemenah and 17th starting Dean Jacobs rounded out the top five.
