KANSAS CITY, Kan. (October 4, 2016) — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas on Friday, October 21 for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rumble on the River. The event will mark the seventh consecutive year the series has visited the historic track and the 17th time overall, dating back to 1980.
Donny Schatz, the seven-time and defending series champion was victorious at Lakeside Speedway last year. That win marked the first for Schatz at the track. Daryn Pittman, who is locked in a tight battle for the second position in points, is also a past winner at Lakeside Speedway, taking the checkered flag back in 2003.
Schatz, who has a series-best 23 wins thus far season, leads the series standings as he chases his eighth championship. Pittman, who has seven wins, is second in points. David Gravel, who has won a career-high nine races thus far in 2016, is third in points, just a single marker behind Pittman. Brad Sweet, who led the standings for the first four-plus months of the season and has seven wins is currently fourth, just 11 points behind Gravel. Shane Stewart and Joey Saldana are currently tied for the fifth position. Stewart has eight A-Feature wins and nine overall victories, while Saldana has visited victory lane five times thus far in 2016.
Jason Johnson, who won the Knoxville Nationals in August is currently seventh in the standings and has three wins on the season. Logan Schuchart, who scored his first-career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win in July at Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin, sits eighth. Jason Sides, who also has a win this season is currently ninth, with Paul McMahan rounding out the top-10.
Also following the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series full-time in 2016 is second-generation driver Jacob Allen, who is teammates at Shark Racing with Schuchart. That team is owned by Hall of Famer Bobby Allen, one of the original World of Outlaws drivers, when the series was born in the late 1970s.
A pair of drivers are contending for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award this season, led by Greg Wilson. The native of Benton Ridge, Ohio was victorious at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway back on Memorial Day weekend. Clyde Knipp, from California, Missouri is also chasing the rookie crown. The 18-year-old ran a non-wing sprint car last year at Lakeside Speedway.
