ELDORA’S SPRING CLASSIC TO INCLUDE PIT AUTOGRAPH SESSION

By Larry Boos

ROSSBURG, OH (March 29) – One of the more popular features at Eldora Speedway, an open pit autograph session, will be offered as part of this weekend’s Coca-Cola Spring Classic season opener.

The opportunity for race fans to walk across Eldora Speedway, venture into the pit area to get a close-up view of the participating race cars and seek autographs of the drivers will take place Saturday afternoon from 4:00 until 5:00.

Kicking off the 2010 season at Eldora Speedway will be the non-winged USAC (United States Auto Club) Sprint Cars Friday and Saturday nights, as they celebrate their 49th consecutive year of racing on the one-half mile clay oval. Friday’s doubleheader will include the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds, while Saturday’s twin bill will see the Stock Cars on the card.

The rare opportunity for general admission ticket holders to go into the restricted pit area was tested last season and became an instant hit.

“I absolutely love it”, recounted Jason McCord, USAC’s Director of Competition. “By letting the fans into the workplace of the drivers, it offers a new dimension, something not experienced in any other major sport.”

Race fans will enter the pit area via the gate access below the flag stand Saturday afternoon, under the direction of the Eldora officials.
