Gold Cup Night #2 Wrap-Up

From CDR

Normally only racing two of the three nights of the Gold Cup, World of Outlaws and Silver Dollar Speedway officials switched the format up for 2010 and called for all teams race each night. With more points on the line, the Big Game Treestands #7 team headed back to the track on Friday evening for night #2.

With another stout field of 49 competitors signed in, Dollansky was 26th fastest in qualifying as he circled the 1/4-mile with a lap of 11.756 seconds. Because Dollansky missed the heat race inversion, the #7 started seventh in the second heat. As heat race action got underway, Dollansky was all over Brad Sweet for the transfer position but when the field bottled up on lap 3 Dollansky drove over Jason Sides right rear and went over the banking. After repairs were made to the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim, Dollansky restarted at the tail of the field and came up to 8th meaning the team would have to run the B feature. “Qualifying put us in a hole for the rest of the night”, commented Craig. “We were working on the transfer spot in the heat and had a restart but Sides and another car got together infront of us and Sides got pushed up the track and we got caught in it trying to get around on the outside and put us over the track.” With only the top four in the B feature transferring to the main event, Dollansky endured numerous cautions but worked his way from the sixth starting spot into a transfer positon and finishing 3rd.

In the 30-lap A-Main, the Karavan Trailers backed sprinter started twenty-third. As racing got underway, Dollansky gained a few positions and ran nineteenth by lap 17 when a caution came out for Jayme Barnes. When action resumed, Dollansky was able to gain a few more positions in the remaining laps aboard the Big Game Treestands #7 and finished in the 14th position. “We were forced to run the B and transferred out of that and started last row of the feature. In the feature we were tight the whole race until the latter part when the race car started freed up and we were able to get by some cars towards the end of the race”, said Dollansky.

With two nights of racing at Silver Dollar Speedway in the books, Dollansky has accumulated a total of 846 points which is 17th most. The top 12 in points are locked into Saturday’s main event so Dollansky will start 3rd in the first B-Main and look to transfer into the big show. Saturday’s event awards show up points for World of Outlaws drivers and does not consist of a normal World of Outlaws format unlike nights one and two.
