Hard Night at Huset’s

From CDR

Mother Nature and Huset’s Speedway have gone hand-in-hand the past few years including earlier this year when the event on June 26th fell to rain showers. Saturday, however, a great day of weather in eastern South Dakota was presented to the Big Game Treestands #7 team as ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ returned to the high-banked track where he captured the two World of Outlaws features at the 3/8-mile in 2008 and finished 5th last year.

As the race evening got underway, Dollansky achieved less than desired results in qualifying due to a plug wire coming off of the motor resulting in an ill-sounding car and the 20th fastest car out of the 29 cars in the pit area. In a bit of a hole, the Aggressive Hydraulics Maxim started seventh in the second heat and worked the highside of the track to race past Cody Darrah and transfer into the feature by finishing 6th.

In the 35-lap A-Main the Big Game Treestands #7 team had their work cut out starting on the outside of row nine. As the feature got underway Dollansky raced past three cars in the opening lap before a caution came in turn two on the second circuit as the #7 just narrowly missed a spinning Donny Schatz who brought out the caution. On the restart Dollansky ran the low side but caught the inside berm in turn two, nearly spinning out, and dropping back through the field but still under power. ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ would put the car up on the cushion and start to chip away at the deficit as he reclaimed the fifteenth position before a caution with 14 laps to go. With the track surface deteriorating, Dollansky still managed to pass Paul McMahan with six laps to go and Dusty Zomer two circuits later. With only two laps remaining, tire wear became too much for the right rear on the #7 and resulted in a blown tire and brought out the caution. The Big Game Treestands #7 team would make repairs to rejoin the field but with only two laps left and a rubber down surface, Dollansky crossed the finish line in 17th.

The Big Game Treestands #7 team will regroup and travel to the west side of South Dakota where the ‘Great Northern Tour’ resumes on Tuesday at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City.
