The 2009 racing season was a great one for Stevie Smith and the Zemco Speed Equipment crew led by Tommy Carl. Smith and the Zemco Team ended the 2009 season with a win at the Kenny Weld Memorial Race back in October at the always entertaining Lincoln Speedway. The final victory of the season gave Smith and the team their 12th victory of the 2009 season along with plenty of confidence for the 2010 season.
Smith and car owners John and PeeWee Zemaitis sat down before the Kenny Weld Memorial race to discuss what direction to pursue in 2010. The conversation was short and sweet as Stevie Smith will return to pilot the always competitive Zemco Headers No.1 sprint car in 2010.
“The 2009 season was a good one for not only me as a driver but for this entire racing operation,” said Smith. “John and PeeWee Zemaitis have treated me like family, the team has embraced me, and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity they have given me this year. They run a class-act operation and they have an excellent crew assembled here. Every time we go to the track, we feel we can win. I am really excited about the 2010 racing season, and hopefully next year we can win some more races. This team has so much potential and I am confident we can continue to have success in 2010. I also have to thank our fans for sticking behind us this year. We really appreciate your support and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again next season.”
“We had an excellent season and we won some big races,” said car owner John Zemaitis. “Stevie is an excellent driver and he knows his way to the winners circle, and he gets along with everyone so well, we’re very excited to have him back next year. Our crew chief Tommy Carl will be back with us, as will our very dedicated crew of Ryan and Bill Hand, Adam Stull, Sam Unger, and Dylan Fox. They are with us 100% and I can’t thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to this team. I also can’t forget about our fans. We thank you for loyal support to this race team and hopefully in 2010 we can give you some more wins and excitement.”
