With two ‘Crispy Memorial’ wins already to his name; Cameron Gessner last Saturday night added another one to his tally during the third running of the annual event at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway.
Not only did this continue his perfect ‘Crispy Memorial’ winning record but it was Gessner’s second feature race of the 09/10 season, adding to his sensational victory over World of Outlaws / Knoxville Nationals Champion Donny Schatz in the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship preliminary feature race at Brisbane International Speedway earlier this year.
Gessner was able to continue his perfect ‘Crispy Memorial’ winning record by winning both of his heat races and then he earned the right to start the feature race from pole position and won that event to finish off what was a perfect night.
Despite losing the feature race lead momentarily during the middle stages of the 25-lap event when he was passed by fellow Queenslander Allan Woods; Gessner fought his way back into command in lapped traffic and from there was he never threatened all the way through to the fall of the chequered flag.
“[Allan] Woodsy crept up on me in the middle stages of the feature race in open track, but I was able to move back into the lead when lapped traffic came into play. It was a bit of a wakeup call and it made me push on a bit harder all the way through to the finish,” said QLD # 68 AUS Fuel / Metalcorp sponsored Cheetah. “To win three from three ‘Crispy Memorial’ events is something really special to our whole team as he was a good friend of all of us. We’ll be back again next season to see if we can make it four in a row. Winning is certainly something you don’t ever get sick of.”
In Gessner’s opening heat race he had a bit of luck when a few cars ahead of him crashed out early on, which he was lucky to avoid himself, and he then took full advantage of this and went on to claim the victory. In his second heat race of the night he picked up another win and that earnt him the right to start the feature race from pole position by virtue of being the highest point scorer.
Gessner and the CG Motorsport are next going to be in action this Saturday night (February 20) for the latest round of the QLD Speedway Spares Series at Brisbane International Speedway.
For the 09/10 season Gessner and CG Motorsport team are supported by AUS Fuel, Direct Haul, Breast Cancer Australia, Metalcorp, Centastate Civil Contractors, QLD Speedway Spares, Greenies Tippers, Cheetah Performance and Don Ott Race Engines.
